Tyne and Wear Metro services between Wallsend and Monkseaton have been suspended this morning (January 5) after a reported cable theft. Staff are reportedly working to solve the problem.
Services are currently trying to get metro tickets accepted on local bus services to reduce the effect on people's commutes. Anyone planning on using the metro services in this area should consider an alternative form of transport.
Tyne and Wear Metro tweeted earlier this morning: "Due to cable theft in the Meadow Well area the service will be suspended from the start of operation between, Wallsend and Monkseaton in both directions. Staff are onsite working to remedy the issue. We are currently working on getting ticket acceptance on local bus services."
