All the ways Edinburgh will be transformed as city goes into 10 days of mourning

Edinburgh is set to look very different in the days to come following the death of Her Majesty the Queen.

The news was broken by Buckingham Palace on Thursday evening (September 8), when a statement announced that Queen Elizabeth II had passed peacefully at Balmoral, aged 96.

Plans are now underway following both Operation London Bridge and Operation Unicorn, which have detailed that her body will be moved to Edinburgh before being taken back to London.

With the eyes of the world to fall on Edinburgh over the weekend as the Queen is brought to the Scottish capital, there will be a series of changes in the city.

Less than 24 hours since the announcement of her death, images of Her Majesty have now appeared on major advertising billboards and bus stops in tribute to the monarch.

Advertising was also removed from the boards at Tynecastle on Thursday evening while Hearts carried out their match, however all SPFL games this weekend have now been cancelled.

Flags across Edinburgh are also now flying at half mast as a sign of respect, with those at the likes of the Edinburgh City Chambers and the Scottish Parliament clearly seen by all.

Further tributes have already begun to be left outside the Palace of Holyroodhouse, where the Queen will be moved to on Sunday, September 11.

Flowers, cards and candles have been seen outside the palace gates, with many more expected to arrive in the coming days.

Major road closures are also already in place across the city centre in preparation for the procession, expected to be on Monday, which will see the Queen's body taken from Holyrood to St Giles.

The procession is expected to be attended by many members of the Royal family, where a service will take place before St Giles' hosts the Queen for 24 hours as she lies in state.

A security presence has already been seen at St Giles' and at Holyrood, with thousands expected to turnout over the next few days.
