Residents of Leeds who responded to a Leeds Live poll have said they want to see a new Selfridges store in the City Centre. We had plenty of responses from you, and there's a wide variety of shops that you would be keen to see.
Some would love to see the high-end department store that was dramatised in a high-budget ITV show appear in Leeds, while others would like to see the return of some old favourites.
Leeds city centre is well known for its shopping but sadly we have lost several big-name shops over the years. Despite new shops and boutiques popping up, we all have memories of favourite stores that are now sadly gone from the high street.

Unfortunately, the pandemic and lockdowns it brought with it hit the retail industry hard, with big brand names going bust and stores closing their doors for the final time.
Most recently across Leeds, and the rest of the country, we said goodbye to Topshop and Topman, following the collapse of Sir Philip Green’s Arcadia retail empire. ASOS took on Topshop and Topman with their products being available still from the ASOS website.
Another high-street giant which switched its focus to online in recent years was Thorntons. The Sheffield-founded company shut their 61 stores during 2021.
And of course some big name brands were already distant memories long before the pandemic began - from C&A to Woolworths.
A survey put out by Leeds Live asked the public what stores and shops they would like to see in the town centre and 19% of respondents said a new Selfridges would be best, whilst 14% would love to see the return on Woolworths and 11% opted for Debenhams.
12% of people would like to see some more independent stores open in the city centre, whilst 10% think a Uniqlo store would be best, 9% of people would like to see good old Lewis's return, whilst 7% are hoping for the return of BHS.
