All the price changes as Newport Bus announces first fare increase in three years

Newport Bus has announced its first price increases in three years. The operator has announced that from Sunday, April 23 their bus fares will increase across the network for the first time since January 2020.

They said the decision was "a direct result of the rising costs of operating the business, including challenging fuel and electricity costs." Cardiff Bus have also recently increased their bus fares which you can read about here.

The increase in fares across Newport Bus will increase at an average of 30p and an all-day ticket will still be less than £5, which the company said would ensure that transport by bus is still one of the cheapest city travel options. Child tickets will no longer be a different price than youth tickets as the company will change both fares to the same price.

As well as changes to bus fares, Newport bus are implementing changes to their app. Currently on the Newport Bus app, passengers can buy daily and passport tickets in advance and are also able to track their bus journeys. Now passengers will be able to track the journeys of tickets purchased via contactless onboard. Newport Bus said this would "be just like having a digital bus ticket on your phone."
