All the planned road closures in Cardiff for the Wales v Scotland Six Nations' game

This weekend will see thousands of rugby fans descend on Cardiff to support Wales in their second game in this year's Six Nations' Championship against Scotland.

Wales will face their Celtic cousin on Saturday, February 12 at the Principality Stadium, with kick-off at 2.15pm.

Last week, Wales' first game of the championship took place at Aviva Stadium in Dublin against Ireland. Wayne Pivac's men went down 29-7 and narrowly escaped failing to get a single point courtesy of a late Taine Basham consolation try.

This weekend however, the men in red will return to Cardiff to face Gregor Townsend's team, which beat England 20-17 in their opening round of the championship in Murrayfield.

With Principality Stadium at full capacity following the easing of Covid restrictions, it is likely that Cardiff city centre is in for a busy Saturday.

In preparation for the match, Cardiff city centre will be closed to traffic for most of the day as thousands of people pour into the stadium.

Cardiff Council has confirmed that from 7.00am, Scott Road and Park Street will be closed because of the need to prepare Gate 5 and protect queuing fans, but access will be permitted for as long as possible for all local bus operators, businesses and residents in that vicinity until 10am.

The council has also confirmed that there will be a "full city centre road closure" from 10.15am until 6.15pm, or as soon as it is deemed safe to reopen, which will affect traffic in and around the centre.

The full list of road closures for Saturday's game:

  • Kingsway from its junction with North Road to its junction with Duke Street.
  • Cowbridge Road East from its junction with Cathedral Road to its junction with Westgate Street.
  • Tudor Street from its junction with Clare Road to its junction with Wood Street, but access for residents and traders will be permitted via Fitzhammon Embankment.
  • Plantagenet Street and Beauchamp Street from their junctions with Despenser Place to their junctions with Tudor Street (access for residents and traders will be permitted.)
  • The following roads will be closed in their entirety: Duke Street, Castle St, High Street, Womanby Street, St Mary Street, Caroline Street, Wood Street, Central Square, Westgate Street, Quay Street, Guildhall Place, Golate, Park Street, Havelock Street and Scott Road.
  • Station Terrace and Guildford Street from the junction with Newport Road to the junction with Churchill Way will be access for buses only during the times of the road closures. This is to ensure that there is reliable access for buses to the satellite points in Churchill Way.

Additionally, access to part of the Civic Centre in Cathays will be controlled throughout the day, with access allowed only for event parking, limited commuter parking, loading and access to private car parks.
