It’s been a bumper year for new restaurant and bar openings in Manchester - and there’s still a few preparing to open their doors this side of Christmas.
From the three-floor Asian food emporium Hello Oriental on Oxford Road, to fine-dining at its best over at Musu on Bridge Street, we’ve been spoiled for choice over the last 12 months. This year, we also welcomed the arrival of chic new wine bars - Provence in Spinningfields we’re looking at you - and late-night drinking dens in the form of Sterling, at Gary Neville’s Stock Exchange Hotel, and Blinker at Spring Gardens.
Before we look ahead to 2023 and the hotly-anticipated arrival of London exports Soho House and Sexy Fish - let's focus on what’s right in front of us. Below you’ll find a selection of new openings for this month, and some extras that have just flung open their doors.
Climat
Manchester loves a rooftop dining experience, as proven by the excitement generated following the announcement of several destinations including Chotto Matte - the Japanese Peruvian restaurant on top of Gary Neville’s St Michael's development - and Soho House and Treetop Hotel’s arrival into the city next year.
While the wait for those may be a little longer, this December visitors will be able to get their fix of 360 degree panoramic views at the top of Climat, a wine-led restaurant from the people behind Covino in Chester. Head chef Luke Richardson has been promoted to Executive Chef and will operate both sites, offering seasonally inspired dishes, served alongside a selection of more than 250 wines.

Available for collection and delivery only, the smashed burgers include double and quadruple patties with American cheese, homemade pickles and super sauce, plus a Szechuan Hot Chicken Burger and Cajun fries. You can also order seasoned fries and non-spicy versions as well as extra sauce, buffalo and BBQ dips.

Creams Arndale
Creams Café is all set to bring all your sundaes at once with its new branch opening this month in the Arndale. The nationwide brand will be open for dine-in, takeaway and delivery of its huge range of desserts. The new outlet will bring a burst of colour to the shopping centre, with retro BMXs and skateboards hanging from the walls and ceilings, and a bold splash of neon lighting.
The menu will deliver knickerbocker glories, sundaes, cookie doughs, gelatos, sorbets, scoop shakes, thick shakes and doughnuts, alongside waffles and cakes. There is also a range of plant-based shakes and desserts too.

Just Opened:
Salt & Pepper
The hugely popular Chinese takeaway - forced out of the Arndale Market earlier this year for being too busy - has opened a brand new spot on High Street, across the road from their original location. The team have kept their classic dishes, but have also added stuffed wraps and a series of grilled options for a healthier option. Make sure to check out their new hot curry sauce - a recipe that’s been in the family since their grandad first opened his takeaway in the 60s.

Musu
This high-end Japanese restaurant concept has been in the making for several years and finally flung open its doors last week. Moving into the site that was formerly occupied by fish restaurant Randall & Aubin, Musu is headed up by top chef Michael Shaw, formerly of Raymond Blanc’s multi-Michelin starred Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons. There's wagyu beef, the largest selection of Japanese Yamasaki in the city and a 11-course Kaiseki tasting menu to get stuck into.

Third Floor Rising
Afflecks has welcomed a new resident to its third floor and this one is offering a an all-day menu of British classics, from breakfast through to closing time. Third Floor Rising is a new traditional café, serving homemade food in a retro setting, with specialities including fry-ups, breakfast rolls, pies and paninis.
From handwritten, daily-changing menus, to original 70s printed wallpaper, owners Tommy and Sarah wanted to create something similar to their own own home, reflecting their love of all things retro in the café. The welcoming space also reflects the light and history within the building, with its panoramic windows looking out onto the Northern Quarter.

Great North Pie Co
The latest new spot to land at Kampus will be a little while longer while the finishing touches are added. Great North Pie Co - best known for its stunning pastry work at Altrincham Market - will find a permanent home on Little David Street, flanked by handsome warehouse apartments. It’ll join the likes of Nell’s, Beeswing and Pollen in its new home, so it’s in great company.
