All the latest updates from airports across Scotland amid Storm Eowyn

EDINBURGH airport has announced no flights will operate during the current red weather warning in Scotland.

It comes as forecasters warn gusts of up to 100mph during Storm Eowyn could result in flying debris and pose a danger to life, and people are urged to stay indoors.

Police also said no road users should travel in or to the red weather warning area, while train operator ScotRail said all services will be suspended across Scotland on Friday due to safety concerns.

Elsewhere, hundreds of schools will close.

Edinburgh Airport

The airport announced this morning that airline schedules will be subject to change tonight and in the days to come, and request passengers "please continue to check with your airline for the latest information".

It comes after a Ryanair flight had second thoughts about landing at the airport.

The flight from London Stansted – currently the most-watched across FlightRadar24 tracking website, external – attempted to land in the capital but could not, and is now heading back south.

The original Friday schedule included 136 departing flights, 124 arriving flights and approximately 28,000 passengers coming through the airport.

The current schedule for Friday, which is operating outwith the hours of 10am and 5pm when the warning is active, includes 45 departing flights, 57 arriving flights and approximately 14,500 passengers.

Glasgow Airport

Glasgow Airport has said it is limiting airport operations during the red warning following "the significant level of flight cancellations". 

In a social media, the travel hub urged passengers to check with their airline for up-to-date flight information before travelling on Friday.

Prestwick Airport

On Friday at midday, the airport posted an updated statement, stating: "Today, we notified airlines that the Airfield was closed until 5pm for reassessment.

"It's now closed until 5am tomorrow and the terminal will reopen at 3am. Re-opening times may change."

Updates will be shared to passengers on social media.

Aberdeen Airport

With adverse weather forecast for Friday and Saturday, the airport advised passengers to check the status of their flight with their airline before travelling.

Flights operated by Loganair, KLM and British Airways departing Aberdeen and Inverness Airport are listed as cancelled.

British Airways flights from Aberdeen to London Heathrow flights are cancelled for the day.

Aer Lingus flights to Dublin are cancelled and Eastern Airways have asked passengers to check ahead with several services cancelled.

Inverness Airport

A Highlands and Islands Airports Limited (HIAL) spokesperson for Inverness Airport said: “The adverse weather forecast for Scotland from Friday, January 24 and through the weekend, is impacting flight schedules.

“We advise passengers to check with their airlines for flight updates before travelling.”

A social media statement from Loganair, who have cancelled all flights, said: “In view of the weather warnings issued, in the interest of safety, all Loganair flights on Friday January 24 have been cancelled.”

Dundee Airport

Passengers are being asked check with their airline for flight updates before travelling.

Xplore Dundee’s Fly service from Dundee to Edinburgh Airport have been suspended between 9am and 6pm and no Loganair flights are flying from Dundee Airport.
