All the items banned from hand luggage on UK flights including Jet2, EasyJet, Ryanair and TUI

Party poppers and hoverboards are among the items banned from hand luggage on UK flights.

Many people across the North East will be gearing up take trips abroad this year. As most airlines charge extra for hold luggage, it can be helpful to know what you can pack in a carry-on bag.

Liverpool Echo reports how frequent travellers often have tips for squeezing everything they need into the smallest of bags.

However, as most people know, there are restrictions on the amount of liquids you can take in your hand luggage.

Liquids include foods such as jam or honey, cosmetics such as mascara or lip gloss, and items such as toothpaste, hair gel and contact lens solution.

Containers must hold no more than 100ml and they must be in a single, transparent, resealable plastic bag, which holds no more than a litre and measures approximately 20cm x 20cm.

There are a number of things which you cannot carry in your hand luggage, or at all, when travelling by air.

Here is a list of all the items banned from hand luggage on flights leaving the UK:

  • Liquid oxygen
  • Stunning devices
  • Ammunition
  • Guns, firearms and all other devices that discharge projectiles, including replicas
  • Camping stoves
  • Mercury thermometers
  • Explosives including fireworks
  • Blunt instruments including baseball bats and fishing rods
  • Chemical or toxic substances
  • Workmen’s tools including drills and crowbars
  • Sharp objects including knives and razor blades - though disposable razors are allowed
  • Hoverboards
  • "Smart Luggage" (a bag or suitcase with a battery)
  • Pets or any animals other than assistance dogs
  • Party poppers
  • Print and toner cartridges that weigh more than 500g
  • Lighter fuel - though passengers are allowed to carry one disposable lighter in a clear resealable plastic bag
