All the Glasgow train strikes in October and how to get ticket refunds

Further train strikes are set to impact trains in Glasgow as disputes over pay continue.

ScotRail has issued a warning to passengers as a number of strike days have been confirmed for October and while some of them are separate disputes, ScotRail services will be affected.

If Network Rail staff take part in industrial action, trains across the country will ground to a halt as they provide essential safety roles.

The unions involved in the upcoming strikes are the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) and ASLEF, Britain's trade union for train drivers.

On October 1 and 8, major industrial action will see 40,000 staff walk out with impact ScotRail services and the train provider is urging passengers to use alternative modes of transport on the days of strikes and expect disruption on either side.

Train strikes in October

  • RMT Network Rail Strike on October 1 and 8
  • RMT ScotRail strike on October 10
  • ASLEF on October 1 and 5

ScotRail stresses that its services will not be impacted by ASLEF's strike action. It said: "ScotRail services will not be directly impacted by planned strike action by train driver’s union ASLEF as this dispute does not involve any ScotRail train drivers.

"However, the strike on October 1 will take place on the same day RMT members of Network Rail are planning industrial action. Therefore, ScotRail services will be disrupted on October 1.

"ScotRail services will not be disrupted due to the ASLEF strike action on 5 October."

How to get a refund for a ScotRail train ticket

ScotRail is warning customers to only travel on strike days by train if it's absolutely necessary. If you choose not to travel on strike days, you can get a full refund or reschedule the date with no administration fees.

ScotRail adds: "If you have a ticket for the day(s) industrial action is taking place you can use the ticket for travel the day before, or up to and including Tuesday, October 4. If you have an Advance ticket, please travel as close as possible to the original day and time of travel as possible.

"You can request a fee-free change of journey for all tickets types if the train is cancelled or delayed, or rescheduled from that in the published timetable of the day after you have purchased a ticket."

You can request a refund on any ticket type up to 28 days after you were due to travel using our online refund request form or by visiting a ScotRail ticket office, if that is where you purchased your ticket from.
