All the cancelled BA flights in July from London Heathrow and Gatwick

With schools breaking up for the summer holidays in days, many are panicking about whether or not their flights will be going ahead amid strikes, cancellations and delays.

Travel chaos begun several months ago with staff shortages galore following travel returning to ‘normal’ after the industry was disrupted amid the Covid pandemic.

Now, British Airways has now cancelled over 10,000 flights between August and October 2022 from London’s Heathrow Airport and Gatwick Airport. It comes after the airline axed an initial 785 flights from Heathrow and 186 flights from Gatwick on Wednesday, July 6, 2022.

The decision for the move was made in a bid to “minimise potential disruption this summer”, amid staff shortages and increased demand for flights, and to try and ensure that the remaining flights go ahead without a hitch.

The company stated: “This new flexibility means that we can further reduce our schedule and consolidate some of our quieter services so that we can protect as many of our holiday flights as possible.

“While most of our flights are unaffected and the majority of customers will get away as planned, we don’t underestimate the impact this will have and we’re doing everything we can to get their travel plans back on track. We’re in touch to apologise and offer rebooking options for new flights with us or another airline as soon as possible or issue a full refund.”

The move is exempt from usual rules that mean airlines can cancel flights without being penalised for not using their airport slot in a one-off “amnesty” by ministers. This amnesty ended on Friday, July 8, 2022.

Here’s the full list of flights and destinations set to be affected by the cancellations.

Which July BA flights and routes have been cancelled from Heathrow Airport and Gatwick Airport?

On Tuesday, July 5, 2022, British Airways cancelled over 100 flights from Heathrow Airport. Since then, a further 10,300 additional flights have been removed from the airline’s schedule from the start of August to the end of October, 2022.

Fortunately, no long-haul flights will be affected by the move but it does mean passengers booked on short-haul journeys could face issues, as well as those on domestic flights.

Passengers heading to destinations like Faro in Portugal and Malaga in Spain could face cancellations, as the airline has said that short-haul flights with more than one daily departure could be affected.

A spokesperson has explained that the “majority of customers” will not be impacted.

However, BA has not yet announced exactly which flights and routes have been slashed from its schedule in the August to October period.

It is believed that passengers were given advance warning about recent cancellations. They are also entitled to new flights on the original day of departure if seats are available on other airlines – including competitors of BA.

If passengers were given less than two weeks of notice about the cancellations, they are also entitled to cash compensation.

These are the recent routes that faced cancellations amid the amnesty.
