All the big gigs announced for Cardiff this summer

As the sun slowly starts to rise earlier in the morning we realise that warm weather and bright blue skies are only a stone's throw away.

And summer 2022 is set to be a good one, with Cardiff being full of live music thanks to some big gigs heading to the Welsh capital in the coming months. And as well as the stadium and castle performances, it's also been announced that the BBC6 Music Festival will be taking place at venues in the city. You can read more about that here.

From indie, soul and rock to cheesy pop, as well as some fabulous sunny festivals, here are come of the biggest gigs in Cardiff this summer.

Little Mix

Little Mix initially announced exciting details of a new headline UK and Ireland arena tour for 2021.

However, due to the pandemic, the band's Confetti tour, which was due to start last April, was pushed back to this year.

They will now be performing at Cardiff Motorpoint Arena from Monday, May 2 to Monday, May 4 and after the tour the girls will be taking a break to embark on solo projects.

My Chemical Romance

Adding to their three sold out gigs in Milton Keynes and one at the Eden Project in Cornwall, the emo band will be in Cardiff's Sophia Gardens on Saturday, May 28.

The band were formed in Newark, New Jersey, and debuted in 2002 with the independently released album I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love.

The band signed to Reprise Records the following year and made their major label debut with 2004's Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge.

Ed Sheeran

The pop star is playing three dates at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on Thursday, May 26, Friday, May 27 and Saturday, May 28.

They will form part of the first leg of his ‘+ - = ÷ x Tour’ (pronounced ‘The Mathematics Tour’) , taking place in stadiums throughout 2022. New dates have also been announced in Sunderland, Manchester and London.

Madness

Madness will play a huge headline show in Cardiff this summer.

The '80s giants will perform in Cardiff Castle on Jubilee Weekend with a gig on Wednesday, June 1. Read more about it here. The gig is the first of many at the historic venue this summer.

They are no strangers to the Welsh capital and their most recent gig took place at Cardiff Motorpoint Arena before Christmas 2021.

Lionel Richie

The legendary smooth singer is back in Wales for a gig at Cardiff Castle on Thursday, June 2.

This gig was originally scheduled for summer 2020 and then 2021, but is now on its third attempt for summer 2022.

The original tickets are still valid.

Diana Ross

Another Cardiff Castle gig, this time it is legendary singer, Diana Ross on Friday, June 10.

Announced following the release of her latest album, Thank You, Diana’s 2022 tour sees her perform for one night only in Cardiff at the castle with a setlist of her chart-topping, instantly-recognisable hits, such as Ain't No Mountain High Enough, Chain Reaction and Endless Love - along with songs tracks from her latest album.

Pete Tong

Legendary dance DJ Pete Tong will return to Cardiff Castle with his Cardiff Castle Ibiza Classics show this summer.

It will be four years since the global dance music legend and Radio 1 Essential Selection presenter came to the Welsh capital and he'll be at the Castle on Friday, July 8.

Rag 'n' Bone Man at Depot in the Castle

Depot in the Castle will take place on Saturday, July 9 & Sunday, July 10 in the setting of Cardiff Castle 's grounds. Now in its fifth year, the festival is set to include a Saturday night performance followed by a day of family-friendly fun on the Sunday.

Among the big performers is Rag 'n' Bone Man who will entertain fans with a stream of hits, like Human, Anywhere Away From Here, Giant and more, and there'll also be more names added to the roster in good time, too.

Bryan Adams

Another rescheduled Cardiff Castle gig, Bryan is in Cardiff on Monday, July 11.

With a four decade-long career, Adams isn't short of hits and his most recent album, Shine a Light, features a title track co-written by Ed Sheeran.

Titan Festival

The house and drum & bass festival is back and taking place at Alexandra Head in Cardiff Bay.

DJs such as Chase & Status, Wilkinson, Shy FX and Kings of the Rollers will be playing on Friday, July 15 whereas English deep house DJs CamelPhat will play their best dance and electronic tracks alongside Patrick Topping on Saturday, July 16.

Lewis Capaldi

The Brits Critics' Choice Award winner will be performing at Alexandra Head in Cardiff Bay on Wednesday, July 20.

Simply Red

Mick Hucknall and his pseudo-soul crew band are together again for their Big Love World Tour.

They are performing at Alexandra Head in Cardiff Bay on Thursday, July 21.

Olly Murs

Olly Murs will be performing at the castle in July (mbc pr)

The cheeky chap of UK pop is back in Wales for another gig at Cardiff Castle on Thursday, July 21.

He can currently be seen presenting the new ITV Saturday night talent show Starstruck.

Primal Scream

The Scottish rock band are performing at Cardiff Bay with Happy Mondays and Hot Chip for a unforgettable rock & roll experience.

The band will be performing on Friday, July 22 at Alexandra Head.

Tears For Fears

The '80s legends who have recently had a hit with new single Tipping Point, their first for a decade, will be at Cardiff Castle on Saturday, July 23 .

They will be joined by another '80s chart-topper, Alison Moyet.

The Libertines

The Libertines will be playing Bute Park, Cardiff in summer 2022 (Roger Sargent)

The Libertines are another band visiting Bute Park in Cardiff as part of a series of celebrations for the 20th anniversary of their album Up The Bracket.

Pete Doherty and Carl Barat will bring the band to Wales on Friday, August 5.

Feels like Summer Festival

In August, festival Feels Like Summer will be returning to a new venue in Cardiff's Bute Park after a two-year hiatus.

The one-day family festival will be held on Saturday, August 6 , with Billy Ocean headlining and Sophie Ellis-Bextor is also listed on the festival bill.

Other acts include the Gospel House Choir - an electric house meets gospel experience - fitness legend Mr Motivator, and musicians and dancers Bloco B.
