All of the February food product recalls in Ireland affecting Supervalu, Aldi, Dunnes and more

There have been several food recalls in Ireland over the past two weeks affecting customers both online and in stores nationwide.

From brands of rice, to salmon and vegetarian options, a number of alerts have been published in the month of February so far.

Customers shopping at Aldi, Centra, Supervalu, and Dunnes should check to ensure they do not have the implicated batches.

So, here are all of the recalls this month so far:

Organic Coconut Oil

Today, February 11, the Food Safety Authority has recalled specific batches of a brand of organic coconut oil cold online in Ireland.

Ekoplaza Kokosolie Geurloos organic coconut oil is being recalled due to the elevated level of glycidyl esters.

Glycidyl fatty acid esters are food contaminants generated during the processing of edible oils and fats.

Glycidyl fatty acid esters are converted to glycidol after consumption.

Although the consumption of the contaminated product does not pose an acute risk to health, there may be health issues if there is continued consumption of glycidyl esters over a long period of time.

The batches included in the recall are:

IKEA vegetable balls

On February 10, IKEA issued a recall of one of its food products sold in Irish stores over safety concerns.

Batches of its HUVUDROLL Vegetable Balls had to be taken off shelves due to the possible presence of plastic pieces.

Point-of-sale recall notices are displayed in IKEA stores that had the implicated batches on sale.

The frozen vegetable balls have a pack size of 1000g with a best before date of October 26, 2022.

Irish Salmon

On February 10, a smoked salmon product made in Ireland was urgently recalled over food safety fears.

Burren Smokehouse issued the alert on a batch of its Smoked Irish Organic Salmon after a "very low level" of listeria monocytogenes was detected.

Retailers of this product include SuperValu, Centra, Spar and Daybreak stores, as well as a number of delis and cafes.

The organic salmon being recalled comes in pack sizes of 90g, 180g, 500g and 1 kg and has the approval number IE MO 0022 EC and the batch code 288/02.

Rice

On February 3, several batches of 11 different rice products were urgently recalled from SuperValu and Centra in Ireland.

The specific batches are being urgently taken off shelves "due to the possible presence of insects".

Among the affected items are long grain, basmati, brown and wholegrain rice.

An alert about the SuperValu and Centra recall was issued by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland on Thursday.

All of the implicated batches are as follows:

Aldi’s Rooster chicken

Aldi also recalled a batch of one of its popular chicken products out of stores over food safety concerns.

The budget retailer is recalling its Roosters Gluten Free Breaded Chicken Fillet Goujons due to the possible presence of salmonella.

The affected products have a pack size of 400g, the batch code 211216, 16:00:00, 16.12.2021, and best before date of December 16, 2022.
