A DUNDEE-BASED charity which has helped families across the city for more than 40 years has appointed a liquidator.
Home-Start Dundee, which supports parents with children aged under five, closed its doors at the end of March with all its staff being made redundant.
Shona Campbell of Henderson Loggie has since been appointed as liquidator, according to the Courier.
The charity had reportedly gone to extensive measures to secure sustainable funding and attract new volunteers before it closed.
Home-Start Dundee offered support and friendship to help young families which were under stress in their own homes in a bid to prevent family crisis.
Families were reportedly described as being left “heartbroken” and “devastated” by the news of the closure of the charity and its support services.
The charity employed five members of staff, who have all lost their jobs.
According to the charity’s most recent accounts, it had traded at a surplus in its last financial year.
The accounts, for the year ending March 31, 2024, showed income of £204,984 and expenditure of £167,240 with £143,823 worth of funds being carried forward into the 2024/25 year.
However, months later, bosses at Home-Start Dundee said the charity was facing a “number of challenges” and had to close.
Liquidator Campbell told the Courier that the charity was a “lifeline” for many families in the city.
“This decision reflects the harsh realities of funding challenges faced by many charities today,” she said.
“We are committed to managing this process with compassion and integrity.
“This starts with a thorough assessment of the charity’s assets and liabilities, communicating with creditors, and ensuring all legal obligations are met.”
A spokesperson for the board added: “Home-Start Dundee would like to express its heartfelt gratitude to all staff, volunteers, and supporters who have contributed to the charity’s mission over the years.
“The charity’s commitment to improving the lives of families has made a lasting impact in the community, and regretfully the resources required to continue could not be secured.”
