There are only three things guaranteed in this life; taxes, death and Jeremy Clarkson tweeting his A-Level results every single year. But why? In case you’re unfamiliar, the former Top Gear host has taken to Twitter every single A-level results day since 2014, to share the fact that he only got a C and two Us in his exams 40-odd years ago, but still did pretty well for himself.
Presumably the car fanatic is trying to provide comfort to those who might not receive the grades they hoped for, by pointing out they’re not the be-all and end-all for success, and he’s got a point. The 62-year-old’s humble bragging began eight years ago with him referring to the fact he owned a Mercedes Benz, but they have since evolved into more and more outlandish bragging.

Let’s have a little recap.
In August 2014, Jeremy tweeted: “If your A level results aren't joyous take comfort from the fact I got a C and two Us. And I have a Mercedes Benz.”
The following year, he added: “If your A level results aren't great, be cheered by the fact that I got a C and two Us. And I'm currently sitting in a villa in St Tropez.”
In 2016: “If your A level results are disappointing, don't worry. I got a C and two Us, and I'm currently on a superyacht in the Med.”
By 2017, Jeremy’s tweets had graduated from the lifestyle of a rich man to that of an extremely upper class man, as he bragged about having his chef prepare truffles for his breakfast - although the jury is still out on whether that one was entirely accurate.
Nevertheless, he continued in 2018, tweeting: “Don’t worry if your A level grades aren’t any good. I got a C and 2 Us. And I’m sitting here deciding which of my Range Rovers to use today.”
“A level results a bit rubbish? Don’t worry. I got a C and two Us and I’ve rented this place for the summer,” he tweeted in 2019, alongside a photo of a stunning chateau in Siorac-en-Périgord, France.
In 2020, Clarkson tweeted: “A level results not great? Don’t worry, I got a C and 2 Us and I’m currently building a large house with far reaching views of the Cotswolds.”
However, in 2021, the Who Wants To Be A Millionaire presenter faced huge backlash after continuing with his annual tweeting tradition amidst the pandemic, which had seen many students forced to study at home for almost the entire academic year.
While exams were put on hold due to the restrictions, many GCSE and A-level students were told they would receive their predicted grade as their final grade, causing havoc among teachers and students and creating huge disruption for many people’s university plans.
On results day in August 2021, Jeremy tweeted: “If the teachers didn’t give you the A level results you were hoping for, don’t worry. I got a C and 2Us and I’ve ended up happy, with loads of friends and a Bentley.”
One irritated follower wrote: “Teachers are not ‘giving’ grades … this is very misleading.”
“Could you change the wording about teachers giving the grades?” another added. “It just makes it sound like we plucked it out of thin air when in fact we have to judge certain criteria to award grades.”
A third wrote: “Teachers don't 'give' students grades - students earn them.”
Will he be back to cause more chaos this year? Absolutely.
