New Delhi: The All India Muslim Women’s Personal Law Board has welcomed the Waqf (Amendment) Bill passed by Parliament. The group urged the government to ensure transparency in the Waqf Board’s functioning and protect women’s rights.
Shaista Amber, the board’s president, said past governments and religious leaders failed to act on Waqf reforms. "The current government took a step others avoided," she told ANI.
Amber said donations to Waqf were meant for the poor but were often misused. "Not all Waqf lands were exploited, but the board did not work honestly. Now, we want full transparency so these lands help the needy," she said.

She criticized previous governments for neglecting Muslim welfare. "No party worked for Muslims—they only played vote politics," she added.
Amber demanded action against illegal encroachments on Waqf properties. "The BJP government must free these lands and punish the guilty. Other parties were asleep—why didn’t they act earlier?" she asked.
She also proposed using Waqf land to build homes for divorced Muslim women. In 2017, she had raised this issue with PM Modi.
