Michael Owen has warned that Erling Haaland will ‘break virtually every goalscoring record’ if he stays fit.
The Manchester City striker scored a 38-minute hat-trick during Manchester City’s 6-0 thrashing of Nottingham Forest on Wednesday evening - his second in two games after netting three against Crystal Palace. Those goals have taken the 22-year-old to an astonishing nine goals in five Premier League appearances.
Such a start has only added to the fear among top-flight rivals that the Norwegian will take to English football in the same way he took to the German game, propelling his game to new levels under Pep Guardiola. And former Liverpool frontman Owen has backed the City striker to smash all sorts of records during his time at the Etihad.
Owen tweeted: “I repeat; This fella is going to break virtually every goal scoring record there is. He’s too big, too quick, clinical in front of goal and he’s playing in a team that create dozens of chances. All he need to do is stay fit. #Haaland”
Leeds-born Haaland has hit 164 goals in 206 senior appearances already during his fledgling career, becoming the fastest player to score 20 Champions League goals in March 2021 - doing so in just 14 games.
Former Sunderland striker Micky Quinn holds the record as the fastest player to hit 10 goals in the Premier League, doing so in six games during the 1992/1993 season - a record Haaland can equal or beat when City face Aston Villa this weekend.
