All DWP Bank Holidays dates from Easter to the Coronation for Universal Credit, PIP and Child Benefits in 2023

Any kind of bank holiday can cause confusion over key benefits payments, and with Easter approaching and a number of other bank holidays planned in the coming months, households across the country will be looking to manage their finances. People claiming Universal Credit, Child Benefit payments, PIP should be aware that their payments will be coming in on different days, so take note of these upcoming dates.

Easter is the first holiday set to cause payment disruption, with BristolLive reporting that the holidays fall on the following days- Good Friday (April 7), Easter Sunday (April 9) and Easter Monday (April 10), school Easter holidays will be between Monday, April 3 and Friday, April 14, this year. According to the Government's website, anyone expecting their benefit payments on one of the Easter Bank Holidays will instead see them arrive in their bank earlier on Thursday, April 6.

Claimants do not need to do anything, the payments will be paid as usual, straight into your bank, building society or credit union account. Usually payment dates that fall on a bank holiday or a weekend will be paid the working day before. but some benefit types can differ.

Below is a full list of all bank holidays set for England and Wales in 2023. There is also information on when most benefit types will be paid out, however it is worth double checking the type you claim so you can accurately manage your money.

  • Friday, April 7 - Good Friday
  • Monday, April 10 - Easter Monday
  • Monday, May 1 - Early May Bank Holiday
  • Monday, May 8 - Bank Holiday for the coronation of King Charles III
  • Monday, May 29 - Spring Bank Holiday
  • Monday, August 28 - Summer Bank Holiday
  • Monday, December 25 - Christmas Day
  • Tuesday, December 26 - Boxing Day

When will you receive your benefit payment around these dates?

  • Easter Bank Holiday payments will be made on April 6, if you are expecting your payment on April 7 or 10.
  • Early May Bank Holiday payments will be made on April 28, instead of May 1.
  • Payments expected on May 8 (King Charles III's coronation) will be paid out on May 5.
  • Spring Bank Holiday payments will be made on May 26, instead of May 29.
  • Summer Bank Holiday payments will be made on August 25, instead of August 28.
  • Payments expected on December 25, 26 and 27 this year will instead be paid out on December 22, ahead of Christmas.
