All candidates for Arkansas House of Representatives District 14 Republican primary complete Ballotpedia’s Candidate Connection survey

Both of the candidates running in the March 5, 2024, Republican primary for Arkansas House of Representatives District 14 — Nick Burkes (R) and Joshua Hagan (R) — completed Ballotpedia’s Candidate Connection survey. These survey responses allow voters to hear directly from candidates about what motivates them to run for office.

Here are the candidates’ responses to the question: What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

Burkes:

  • “Government should stay out of the way of the innovators, entrepreneurs, and hard-working taxpayers who drive our economy and create new jobs. I will promote job growth policies such as lowering taxes, cutting red tape, and fighting over-regulation of small businesses.
  • I am committed to protecting conservative values. I will support policies that protect the unborn, safeguard the 2nd Amendment, guarantee parental rights in education, and promote religious freedom. I will not shy away from battles with the radical left on these issues. I will always defend our constitutional rights and conservative principles.
  • It is critically important that we have a strong, well-funded public education system in Arkansas. Northwest Arkansas is blessed with great schools and great teachers, and we need to support them. I also believe it’s important for all families to have choices. Not every child learns the same way or has the same needs, and parents – not government – should always be in the driver’s seat when deciding what is best for their children.”

Hagan:

  • “We all deserve the chance of a better future. Joshua plans to invest in workforce development to open career advancement to hard workers and giving them the chance of having the American dream of home ownership. … Our children get the best education without being subjected to political or social agendas. Citizens know their own needs better than the government and should keep more their own money through lower taxes and securing their personal property rights.
  • Community values are paramount and Joshua believes our shared community values of faith, family, and the right to live life should be protected. As a parent of two children, Joshua knows parents know what is best for their kids and will do a better job raising them than anyone else. Joshua’s faith in Jesus is a basis for his life and leading. He will do all he can to protect everyone’s right to free expression of religion. As a business person he has invested lots of money and time into building our community and knows all should be able to live and build a business they want to build and government should only be a resource. …
  • Joshua believes in public safety. He places a high priority on funding police to make sure our community continues to stay safe as it grows. Fire safety and first responders are always placing their lives on the line to keep us safe and deserve to be well taken care of. Joshua respects and honors their service and wants to make sure they are fully funded to ensure those living in our community will be safe from accidental dangers that arise. On our public safety, Joshua also knows the county jail needs help and wants to pursue making sure it is funded so we can keep criminals off the streets to safeguard our children as they play with their friends.”
