All Ayrshire trains axed during three days of strike action as ScotRail confirm more travel chaos

Ayrshire trains will face a three-day shutdown next week when rail workers strike.

No services will run to the region on June 21, June 23 and June 25 as ScotRail announces just five routes in the central belt will run.

Network Rail staff are set to walk on those days as the RMT union announced three days of strike action across the UK.

It means more travel chaos for commuters who have faced weeks of disruption due to a pay dispute with drivers.

On Tuesday, the RMT announced industrial action as a result of a pay dispute with Network Rail and some Department for Transport train-operating companies.

ScotRail chiefs say the mass strike will have a devastating knock-on effect on their ability to provide services.

Just five services on routes between Edinburgh and Glasgow and Glasgow and Lanarkshire will run, with just two trains per hour and final services set to depart stations before 6.30pm.

Train bosses fear the RMT strike action will also impact the day following each day of action with concerns raised over June 22 (Wednesday), June 24 (Friday) and June 26 (Sunday).

They predict disruption will be caused by the reopening of signal boxes at different times.

And it's feared services may not be operational until later the next day following the strike action.

David Simpson, ScotRail service delivery director, said: “It is very unfortunate to see such widespread disruption across the whole of the Great Britain rail network and we know this will be frustrating for ScotRail customers.

“Regrettably, this strike action by RMT members of Network Rail means that we will not be able to operate the vast majority of our services during the period of strike action.

"Customers should expect significant disruption to services next week, including on the days between strike action.

“On the five routes where we are able to operate a very limited service on strike days, we’re advising customers to seek alternative means of transport and to only travel if they really need to.”
