Games in the NFL often come down to one or two plays. On Sunday against the Eagles, the Rams just didn’t make enough of them to win.
Despite falling behind 28-15 with 4:36 left in the fourth quarter, they mounted a miraculous comeback and got all the way to the Eagles’ 13-yard line with a minute to play and a chance to win it with a touchdown.
They came close to scoring that touchdown, too. Jalen Carter just got in the way.
On third-and-2 from the 13, Matthew Stafford was sacked by Carter for a 9-yard loss. Carter beat Beaux Limmer in the blink of an eye and burst into the backfield before Stafford even had a chance to throw, saving what might’ve been a game-winning touchdown to Tyler Higbee.
Dan Orlovsky shard an all-22 angle of the play that shows Higbee ran a perfect pivot route that caused his defender to slip, giving the tight end plenty of separation in the middle of the field. Had Carter not gotten to Stafford in a flash, the quarterback likely would have hit Higbee in stride for a first down and possibly a touchdown.
At the very least, the Rams would’ve been inside the 5-yard line with just under a minute to play, giving them four plays to score a touchdown and win the game.

The Rams made too many mistakes before that play, putting themselves in a big deficit against a great team. But in a sport where one play can decide the outcome, the Rams came up just short in a pivotal moment.
If Limmer holds his block for at least a second or two, the Rams might move on to the NFC title game.
