Former UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling is set to make his featherweight debut against Calvin Kattar on the prelims of the highly anticipated UFC 300 fight card. The event is scheduled to take place on April 13 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Sterling, who recently lost his bantamweight title to Sean O’Malley, will be moving up to the featherweight division to face Kattar, who is currently ranked No. 8 in the UFC featherweight rankings and is looking to bounce back from a two-fight losing streak.
Calvin Kattar, with a record of 23-7, made his UFC debut in July 2017 and has since faced tough competition, including a main event bout against former featherweight champion Max Holloway. Kattar is known for his striking abilities, landing an average of 5.12 significant strikes per minute.
Aljamain Sterling, with a record of 23-4, has had a successful career in the UFC, holding multiple records in the bantamweight division. Sterling is known for his grappling skills, averaging 1.97 takedowns per 15 minutes of UFC action.
In this matchup, Sterling is the favorite with a -143 betting line, while Kattar comes in as the underdog at +120. Despite Kattar's height advantage, Sterling's ground game could prove to be a significant factor in the fight.
UFC 300 is expected to be a historic event, with UFC CEO Dana White predicting record-breaking attendance at the T-Mobile Arena. The fight card also features other exciting matchups, including Holly Holm vs. Kayla Harrison, Jessica Andrade vs. Marina Rodriguez, Bobby Green vs. Jim Miller, and Deiveson Figueiredo vs. Cody Garbrandt.
