Alister Jack reveals position on Boris Johnson ahead of no confidence vote

Alister Jack reveals position on Boris Johnson ahead of no confidence vote

SCOTLAND Secretary Alister Jack has revealed his stance on Boris Johnson ahead of tonight's no-confidence vote.

On Monday morning it was announced that at least 54 letters of no confidence in the Prime Minister have been submitted to the 1922 Committee, triggering a vote on Boris Johnson's leadership.

While Scottish Tory leader Douglas Ross has flipflopped on his calls for Johnson to step down, Scotland Secretary Alister Jack has remained unwavering in his support, and on Monday morning, confirmed he will vote to back the Prime Minister's leadership.

“The Prime Minister has my full support, and I will be voting to back him tonight.

“He is showing tremendous leadership as we face major challenges at home and abroad.

“I have no doubt that my colleagues in the Parliamentary party will vote to show their confidence in the Prime Minister.”

To survive the vote, Johnson must receive 180 ballots backing his leadership.

Ross, who previously said he would support the Prime Minister until the Ukraine war was over, is yet to confirm how he will vote.

Meanwhile, former Scottish Tory leader Ruth Davidson has repeatedly called for Johnson to stand down, and on Monday morning retweeted a damning letter from Tory MP Jesse Norman, a previous Johnson stalwart who is now calling for his resignation.

Tory MPs will vote anonymously on the Prime Minister's position tonight between 6-8pm.

If Johnson survives the vote, it means any further votes of no confidence are off the table for another year.
