Detectives investigating the brutal doorstep murder of Scots banker Alistair Wilson have travelled to Canada as part of their enquiries.
Officers from Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team are working closely with colleagues in Nova Scotia to carry out vital witness interviews.
Investigators say that “time is no barrier to justice” as they continue to try to catch the man responsible for fatally shooting the 30-year-old in November 2004.
Alistair had just finished getting his two children ready for bed when there was a knock at the front door of his Nairn home.
His wife Veronica answered and was met by a man who asked to speak to Mr Wilson by name.
He was handed a blue envelope with the word “Paul” on it which he took into the house before returning to the door a second time.
He was then fatally shot after being blasted three times.
A major investigation was launched to catch the gunman who is described as being 30 to 40-years-old at the time, with a stocky build and between 5ft 4 and 5ft 7ins tall.
The handgun used was a pocket pistol from the 1930s with H and S letters on the grip.
Detective Superintendent Graeme Mackie said: “Officers are carrying out enquiries in Canada in connection with the murder of Alistair Wilson at his home in Nairn in November 2004
“Police Scotland is working closely with colleagues in Nova Scotia to carry out witness interviews as part of the investigation.
“More than 17 years have passed since Alistair was fatally shot on the doorstep of his home, but time is no barrier to justice.
“We remain committed to ensuring the person responsible for his murder is brought to justice so that we can give his family the answers they deserve.
“I would urge anyone with any information, no matter how small or insignificant they feel it may be, to come forward and speak to detectives.
“Please do not assume that the police already know the information you possess."
