Alistair Johnston dismisses treble talk as he issues Celtic mindset insight

Alistair Johnston has dodged premature talk of a domestic treble for Celtic this season.

The Canadian right-back insists he and his Hoops teammates are "laser focussed" on their next opponents.

Ange Posteoglou's side faces a tough trip to Kilmarnock on Sunday lunchtime.

His team are rapidly closing in on retaining their Premiership title, however, Johnston is adamant it's not over until it's over.

And while a fifth treble in seven years is very much a distinct possibility for Celtic this term, the defender wouldn't be drawn in on it.

When asked about the treble, he responded: "No I don't think anyone in our squad is thinking about that.

"Our leadership is too strong, we have guys here who have been here for decades now it feels like. Cal (McGregor), James Forrest and guys like that who have lifted plenty of trophies in their time and they don't let any of us get caught up in the treble or anything like that.

"It's just focusing on training every day, Kilmarnock on the weekend. There's plenty of big matches still to be played and if we continue at the level we can, we feel confident we can pick up three points and if you do that you put yourself in a position to do something special at the end of the season."

Meanwhile, Postecoglou has condemned abuse aimed at Kevin Clancy in the aftermath of the recent derby against Rangers.

The Hoops ran out 3-2 winners at Parkhead but controversy unfolded after the whistler ruled out an early strike by Alfredo Morelos for a foul on Alistair Johnston.

Clancy has had his personal details leaked on social media and also received abusive messages after the match.

Police Scotland subsequently confirmed that they were investigating the matter.
