Alistair Johnston Celtic injury timeline 'revealed' as Scottish Cup Final chances rated

Celtic are hoping Alistair Johnston will return to fitness in time for the Scottish Cup Final, according to a report.

The Hoops full-back limped off at the national stadium as Ange Postecoglou's men defeated Rangers to end the Light Blues' hopes of silverware this season and put themselves as strong favourites to complete a domestic Treble. The Canada star was on crutches and in a moon boot following the ankle injury at Hampden.

The Daily Record reports that the right-back will likely face a period of three to four weeks on the sidelines but that is all depending on how he reacts to treatment with the worst case scenario that he misses most of the top six schedule including the potential title clincher against Hearts at Tynecastle this weekend.

The Scottish Cup won't be played until June 3 giving the full-back every chance to get back fit as the Scottish champions look to secure a domestic clean sweep.

The 24-year-old has been a regular since he hooked up with Celtic in January. Postecoglou moved fast to secure his services from CF Montreal with Josip Juranovic talk over a transfer in overdrive. The Croatian did move on to Union Berlin in the Bundesliga in the same window.

The injury timeline will come as a blow but Celtic do have Anthony Ralston as cover and he was called upon in the 1-0 win over Rangers thanks to Jota's match-winning moment. He is the latest player to be ruled out with Cameron Carter-Vickers' season now over with the USA international going for surgery after playing through the pain barrier.

Speaking about the pair after the Hampden win over Michael Beale's troops, Ange said: "I mean I thought the two centre halves were outstanding. I mean that's Cameron Carter-Vickers last game of the year because he's been carrying an injury for I don't know how long. We'll put him out the picture for a little while now and get him what he needs to get it done. But the boys are putting in a shift, it doesn't matter what position they play."

On Johnston, he added: "He got a sore one, that's why we took him off but he was waving the crutches about out there so he will feel the pain afterwards. We will have a look at it. Again that's the beauty of our squad, Tony Ralston comes in, he hasn't played in I don't know how long and he did a fantastic job for us. And it has been a squad effort."
