Alistair Johnston agrees with Celtic VAR call as defender 'knew' Alfredo Morelos goal would be disallowed

Celtic defender Alistair Johnston claimed he 'knew' Alfredo Morelos' goal would be ruled out after what appeared to be a foul on the Canadian in Saturday's 3-2 win over Rangers.

With the score at 0-0, Morelos bundled over the line, albeit bundling Johnston over in the process as referee Kevin Clancy blew his whistle to keep the scores level. The decision went to VAR, with co-commentator Ally McCoist branding the decision 'embarrassing' and 'a laughing stock' with the final decision being to disallow the goal.

And the right-back, who was awarded Man of the Match, said he 'knew' the decision would go in his favour.

Speaking on the game, Johnston said to Sky Sports: "I felt like I had a free header and then all of a sudden I didn't because I had two hands on my back!

"I knew it was one of those ones where as soon as it was in the back of the net he was going to call it, and thankfully that is what the referee is there for. He did a good job today, I thought, it wasn't an easy one. I'm glad that he made the right call there.

"It was difficult, but we made it difficult for ourselves. We had a good game plan going into it, but we strayed from it but we kept using the crowd.

"When you have a crowd like that which is just so passionate and gets behind you, it can raise you to levels that you didn't even think you could reach. They always dig in. No task is too big for us."
