Alisson Becker makes 'amazing' Sadio Mane claim and addresses potential Liverpool problem

Alisson Becker believes Liverpool are reaping the benefits of "amazing" Sadio Mane becoming an African champion earlier this year.

Mane's 22nd goal of the season capped a fine comeback from the Reds as they won 2-1 at Aston Villa on Tuesday to keep up the pressure on Premier League leaders Manchester City.

The forward has been in outstanding form since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations in February, where he was named player of the tournament and netted the decisive penalty in Senegal's shoot-out triumph against Mohamed Salah's Egypt in the final.

And Alisson has noted a subsequent change in Mane's game helped by his switch to playing in a central role in recent months.

"Sadio is amazing," said the Reds goalkeeper. "All the time he is helping us, now he is even more confident because of the Africa Cup title.

"He is scoring, helping us in the game, playing in a different position than he was used to playing in. He is a fantastic player for us and I'm really happy to have in my team."

Liverpool made a raft of changes as they played their 59th game of a relentless season, with Alisson explaining how the squad are coping with the intense workload during the decisive closing weeks.

"Sometimes when you are tired, you have to put it in your mind that you can go extra, and if you go with passion and do everything you can, you see normally that you have a little bit (extra) of energy," he said.

"When you look to the players on your side as well and they play with intensity, our team is a team that needs to play with passion so when we look to each other it is something that helps you and can give you extra energy."

Alisson played his part in the victory at Villa Park with a clutch of saves during the second half to maintain Liverpool's lead.

"They tried everything to get the draw, they had their chances," he said. "But in the Premier League sometimes you have to just defend with your heart and passion and we did it again and we kept the score positive for us.

"Villa played really well and gave 100% out there with top players with quality, also a really intense team. We conceded early and that's something we need to improve a little bit to have more wins with clean sheets, but all that matters is the three points. They tried (to press) but we found space to overplay the pressure, I thought we did really well playing from behind."

Liverpool will now turn their focus on to the second leg of a possible quadruple when they take on Chelsea in the FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday.

And Alisson, speaking to LFC TV, added: "I'm really looking forward to it. It's my first FA Cup final and it's a trophy this group hasn't won yet, and we really want to win it. We set the targets at the beginning of the season and we have arrived here and have a massive opportunity to win that and we will give 100% to do that."
