Alison Hammond paused to offer one This Morning viewer some sound advice after they made a sad comment about their size. The presenter was back at the helm of the ITV daytime show on Friday (October 21) alongside Dermot O'Leary.
During the final show of the week, and their last covering for Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield during their half-term break, the duo were joined by Carol Vorderman and Gyles Brandreth. After appearing together on the famous sofa earlier this month, the pair were back with their latest 'love clinic'.
One of the callers who was able to speak to the Celebrity Gogglebox stars was Dionne, who was asking about how to go about finding love at the age of 57. The caller admitted to missing male company after leaving her 21-year marriage in 2019. But feels her size goes against her.
Dionne said: "I don't like being single and, I have to say, Alison probably understands me in this next sentence; I am a plus size lady and that seems to go against what a lot of them men out there are going for."
She added: "As soon as they realise you are slightly bigger they lose all interest and disrespect you." Carol told Dionne: "And that's terrible, that's disgusting," before Alison stepped in, despite some This Morning fans feeling like Alison had been 'body shamed'.
But Alison didn't appear to take it that way as she offered Dionne some advice. "If that person's not into you, then that's not your person," she told her. "There's plenty of other people who are going to love all that fluff babes, they're going to love all that juice, trust me."
Alison continued: "A lot of them say they don't like it, but when they have a taste of it, they absolutely love it. Don't even worry about that, put it - the bigness - to the back of your mind and let your personality come through, because once they see who you truly are, I'm telling you, they will fall in love with you."
Back in March, Alison had to be consoled by her co-stars as she hosted This Morning. At the time, Alison and Dermot were joined in the studio by agony aunt Deidre Sanders. They were asking viewers to phone in to chat through any issues they may be having that Deidre may be able to help with.
One This Morning viewer, known just as 'Jean', rang in to the programme as she shared her worries about her 17-year-old daughter's eating habits and problems with food. Alison ended up being moved by the call and opened up about her own issues surrounding her weight. "Can I just say something," she started. "Because I've had..."
Her voice starting to crack, Alison said: "See... I'm getting upset," before continuing on: "I've had obesity all my life. What it is is, your regulation system is out of whack. Obviously, you can't control wanting to eat all the time. And I think a lot of people don't realise obesity is a disease. You can't help it. You can't help wanting to eat all the time."
But during her latest This Morning appearance, Alison had viewers in stitches with her honesty about the gym. While still talking to Dionne the 47-year-old said: "Get yourself out there, get to those Zumba classes, get yourself to the gym. I love the gym, I don't do anything, I just check out the talent."
@Itt39354118 tweeted: "Hahaha alison loves the gym but she does'nt do anything #thismorning." @TraylorHolmes posted: "Alison: 'I love going to the gym. I don’t do anything while I’m there, I just look at the talent,'" adding a crying laughing emoji. @Dantastic_1987 simply added: "We need to protect @AlisonHammond at all costs #ThisMorning."
