Alison Hammond 'ruins' Ant and Dec prank as she refuses to take part

Ant and Dec have shared how a prank for their Saturday Night Takeaway show was "ruined" because of Alison Hammond.

The ITV programme is making a return this weekend for a new series as the Geordie presenters welcome a new host of famous faces to take part in their games. Speaking on BBC's The One Show ahead of Saturday Night Takeaway airing they shared how a prank was ruined when Alison, known for being a barrel of laughs on This Morning, refused to take part.

Full details of the prank are not yet clear but Ant and Dec explained that it involved Alison staying in a hotel which they had set up to seem haunted. They added: "Anything that could go wrong, did go wrong that night."

The presenters said: "It was a night in a creepy, old hotel that we set up but she kind of scuppered our plans when she turned up and refused to stay there because it looked too scary. She got back in the car and said she was going home, so that was going to be a very short Undercover until we managed to manufacture a situation to make for her to stay for a while.

"She went to the wrong location to start with, she refused to stay at the location because it felt too creepy; we’d almost done too good a job at making it spooky."

One Show host Alex Jones didn't like what they had put Alison through. She said: "What we love is pranks. This time, Alison Hammond gets it. I mean, I love Alison but you two are beyond a joke."

Dec said: "That is the one that nearly went absolutely haywire. The hotel was supposed to be an overnight stay and she got as far as reception and went, 'I'm not staying here. This place is too spooky.'"

Ant added: "We had to ring the producer from This Morning and we said, 'Get her in for a drink at least' and then we could try and get her to stay at the hotel. We then called her driver and told him, 'There's another job for you down the road', just to get him away so she didn't have a car to go to. We had to do anything we could to keep her there."
