It was a chaotic yet hilarious moment on This Morning as Sharon Marshall lost her voice live on air, leaving Alison Hammond scrambling for a first aid kit and Dermot O’Leary trying to hold back the giggles.
Sharon, 53, was right in the middle of her regular soap segment when her voice suddenly gave out. Clearly struggling, she tried to keep going but eventually told viewers, “So sorry my voice has completely gone… it’s hay fever, don’t worry.”
Dermot and Alison immediately stepped in with sympathy (and a bit of banter). Alison leaned over to Dermot and asked, “Have you got the first aid kit?” before joking, “We’ll give her some little mints.” Dermot, trying to keep it light, chimed in with: “Don’t worry Shazza, I feel weak myself, dosed up to the nines”, reports Wales Online.
Alison even suggested they take over the soap updates themselves, saying Sharon needed some pampering: “Maybe massage her feet, she needs a bit of love.” But Dermot quickly pointed out, “We don’t know what we’re doing, we’d be all over the show.” Alison agreed, laughing: “Very true.”
Thankfully, Sharon bounced back like a pro and picked up right where she left off, diving into the latest soap drama with her usual enthusiasm.
First up was Emmerdale, where things have taken a seriously dark turn. Caleb Miligan, played by William Ash, is fighting for his life after Joe Tate’s twisted organ theft plot left him stabbed and clinging on in the middle of a dodgy transplant. Viewers saw Caleb start to clock what’s going on when he spotted kidney medication lying around. Alison asked: “Is Caleb going to work it out?” and Sharon joked, “‘Oh what a coincidence, you’re on the same kidney medication as me?’”
Then it was over to EastEnders, where Sonia Jackson is set to make a quick exit after her dad turned up out of nowhere. Sharon revealed both Sonia and her on-screen sister Bianca are leaving, with Bianca’s exit tied to her Celebrity Big Brother appearance. Sharon quipped: “Of course Bianca had to go to get in the Celebrity Big Brother House.”
She couldn’t resist throwing her support behind Corrie’s Jack P Shepherd in the CBB house either, joking, “Can I say Jack P Shepherd for the win?” Alison noted he keeps getting nominated, and Sharon replied, “That’s because he’s not playing a game… We are seeing the real him now, and he’s a really funny guy.” Despite the on-air hiccup, Sharon held her own — proving once again she’s a total telly trooper.
