Alison Hammond issues apology before tears on This Morning over secret struggle after Holly Willoughby addresses 'fake' friendship claims

Alison Hammond was left issuing an apology about the way she uses social media after discovering she has been using the block button for all the wrong reasons.

The presenter was back at the helm of This Morning when she had the realisation on Friday (June 9). She was back fronting the ITV daytime show for the first time since she and co-host Dermot O'Leary stepped in and covered following Phillip Schofield's shock exit.

But the pair returned in good form and kicked off the show in their usual cheery manner. Shortly into the last edition of the popular programme of the week, Alison and Dermot were chatting through the latest news headlines with Nick Ferrari and Matthew Wright.

And as he gave them their welcome, Dermot described their regular guest as GOATs, a slang phrase meant to mean the Greatest Of All Time which is used as a compliment. But after her co-host made the remark, a confused Alison admitted that she'd "never" heard that reference before.

The former Big Brother contestant-turned-TV favourite later went on to say that she thought she was being trolled when social media called her "GOAT" online. "I've been blocking people," she admitted before adding: "Sorry If I've blocked you."

Things later got emotional in the show when Alison and Dermot were joined live in the studio by body confidence coach Michelle Elman who appeared to take viewers calls and speak to those who had body image concerns and wanted some expert advice.

Alison and Dermot were back fronting the ITV show (ITV)

One of the calls came in from Elaine from London, who shared how she was living with lymphodemia, a swelling due to build-up of lymph fluid in the body. "I've had it for a long time but the past few years it has got really bad and my thighs and legs look like tree trunks and they’ve got scars," she said on he show.

Explaining how she hated to now go outside with her legs uncovered, Elaine said she would "live in black trousers" if she could. And after getting some advice from Michelle about how she could respond to the body shaming, Elaine then spoke about how she felt judged by people staring at her in public.

"Let them stare and you enjoy your life," Alison interjected. "Your body is not an ornament for people to stare at. You just do you babes." And after sharing she hadn’t been to a beach in three years, Alison suggested they head to the seaside together.

The host then added: "Elaine I know exactly how you are feeling. You can do this and you can be strong." She also shared that she 'had insecurities too', telling the caller: "I feel like how you feel sometimes as well. It’s not always perfect what you see on the TV. I don’t like taking my jackets off but in life you have to enjoy it because before you know it, you are not here.

Alison also offered some advice to an emotional caller (ITV)

"You really have to enjoy your life and your legs are beautiful. They are just different, that is all it is." She continued: "Sometimes I don’t like going to the gym because people are staring at me but they will stare and then worry about what is happening with them. Live your life and live it to the fullest."

Alison's return to This Morning comes after Holly Willoughby appeared to respond to claims that their friendship isn't real, according to former colleague Eamonn Holmes who suggested that was the case in a bombshell interview for GB News after the Schofield scandal

As Holly hosted the show this week with Criag Doyle, they went live to her previous co-host Josie Gibson who was appearing on the show in a link filmed by the Kennet and Avon canal. "Stick with us over the next few days because I'm going to be on my own canal boat adventure and tomorrow is Best Friends Day, so my friends better be ready! Got a canal boat waiting for you..." she said.

Holly responded: "Aw, enjoy that! Think of all the friends getting on the canal with her. The canals are about to get even more dangerous, Craig!" Craig then asked: "How many of you are going, Jose?"

Josie replied: "Well, I've been trying to round them out but Alison can't make it, Holly's obviously in the studio, so I've got one or two." Holly then interrupted as she confirmed: "Alison can't come because she's at mine tonight! That's what I do know!"
