Alison Hammond got scolded for Big Brother rule break - then got booted out rapidly

Alison Hammond has done very well for herself, considering she booted out of the Big Brother house almost immediately

The much-loved This Morning host first graced our screens 20 years ago during the third series of the reality TV show when she was just 27-years-old.

But it's remarkable to think that Alison, who is now 47, only lasted 15 days in the famous bungalow out of 64 and destroyed some furniture in that time.

Alison appeared in the same series as Jade Goody and Kate Lawler, but didn't really get much time to show off the bubbly personality which has made her a star today.

Although it was lucky she even made it into the house at all as Alison had an offer from a rival show and broke a golden rule before entering.

Contestants on the show were sworn to keep their involvement a complete mystery – with the cast being unveiled on the live launch night show.

But Alison started blabbing to everyone and luckily managed to get away with it.

"I told the world! Big Brother literally said whatever you do, don’t tell anyone, the only person you can tell is your mum," she revealed in October last year.

"I told everyone at work, everyone at college, I told the whole world, strangers… I stood in front of the billboard, taking photos and doing a handstand up against it. And no one said anything.

"And then apparently Jade Goody actually did tell somebody and they went I the press, and then we did have to go into lockdown three days early."

In her short time in the house, Alison blazed a trail of outrageousness and managed to wind up a lot of her housemates.

Alison and Kate snuck outside to try and spot a security guard by standing on a table, which then collapsed when Alison starting jumping up and down on it.

Scuttling into the Diary Room to confess her sins, she told Big Brother, "I've done something really bad but it is an accident. I think I've just broken the outside table by jumping on it."

Big Brother was not impressed and gave her a rollicking for breaking the rules by jumping on the furniture and trying to communicate with the outside world.

Alison loved to wind up her somewhat highly strung housemate Alex Sibley - who was a stickler for hygiene.

And he almost imploded with horror when she claimed she'd taken a wee in the communal shower.

Branding her "disgusting", he nominated her for eviction as punishment and she ended up getting the boot after receiving just 1,000 more votes than him in Big Brother's tightest vote ever.

"That Alex did my head in, he really did," she later said, clearly baring a grudge.

In a shock twist, Alison later confessed it had all been a big joke that backfired on her.

She said: "But what a big mistake it was. It started a huge row. I can't believe Alex nominated me over that. And I can't wait for him to find out I was only fooling around!"

Former cinema worker Alison burst into tears after her name was read out, but didn't realise her eviction was going to change her life for good.

“I was absolutely devastated at the time. I was enjoying myself and was really upset when I had to leave," said the former cinema worker, who'd hoped to win the £70,000.

“I had gone in to win the money and was gutted when I didn’t.

“But a producer from This Morning saw my eviction and said I was the ideal person to present a slot for them. If he hadn’t seen me I wouldn’t have got the job.

“If I had stayed in Big Brother until the end, I probably wouldn’t have had the career I have.

“So it was the best thing that ever happened to me."

Things could have been very different for Alison if she had followed her heart instead of the cash.

She was toying with the idea of appearing on Blind Date at the same time as the Big Brother offer came in.

She told Heat magazine: "I wanted to do Blind Date, because I wanted to meet Cilla Black and I wanted to meet a bloke, so I though, ‘This is a great thing to do.’ But I was also in a bit of debt, and someone said you could win £70K on Big Brother, so I though, ‘Oh that’s a good idea.’

"It was so weird, because I got both the offers at the same time, and I had to pick and choose. I was so shallow, I didn’t choose love, I chose money!"

Alison has admitted that she probably wouldn’t have the career she has now if she hadn't been voted off Big Brother after two weeks.

She said: "I always think, ‘What would’ve happened if I’d won Big Brother? Would my career have gone in this direction?’ And I don’t believe it would have, because the This Morning producer who watched my best bits never watched Big Brother, but had just happened to turn on."

Alison is now presenting with Dermot (ITV)

Since being evicted from Big Brother, Alison has starred in a number of reality shows including Celebrity Fit Club, Celebrity Stars In Their Eyes, I'm A Celebrity, Celebrity Big Brother, Celebrity MasterChef, Strictly Come Dancing and Celebrity Bake Off.

Then in 2003 she first appeared on This Morning and has since been made the permanent Friday host alongside former Big Brother's Little Brother presenter Dermot O'Leary.

Last week, there was another Big Brother reunion on This Morning as former Big Brother winner Josie Gibson stood in for Dermot.

Josie was thrilled to be working alongside Alison, but couldn't resist pointing out their different fortunes on the show.

Joking about their mutual pasts, Alison said: "It was always going to happen, Josie. Do you know what I was thinking - we both come from Big Brother days. We've got a winner - and a loser."

"I didn't want to say anything, Al, I didn't want to say anything! You are the loser and I am the winner," Josie replied as Alison chimed in with a smile, "But I'm the winner today because I've got you."
