Alison Hammond forced to make change after ITV This Morning reading blunder

Alison Hammond got an extra day on This Morning this week as she filled in for Covid-stricken Holly Willoughby. The presenter, who usually presents the ITV daytime show on a Friday, joined Phillip Schofield on Thursday's show after Jose Gibson stepped in to Holly's shoes for the rest of the week.

And with it being St Patrick's Day, This Morning got into the Irish spirit and the penultimate episode of the week opened with a performance from Imelda May. Shortly after Imelda's performance, it was over to the hosts to welcome viewers to the show and reveal what was coming up over the two-and-a-half-hour programme.

But Alison suffered a slip up as she got her words jumbled. Then later, the 47-year-old told viewers at home that she didn't "know what was wrong" with her before admitting she needed her glasses.

Following an ad break, Alison explained that she'd been having trouble reading the autocue since the start of the show, which was why she'd put her glasses on. "Welcome back to This Morning, now you're not seeing double," she said.

Alison explained the reason for her change (mirror.co.uk)

"I've actually got my glasses on because I couldn't see, I couldn't see the autocue today. I don't know what's the matter with me. So I thought I'd let you know."

Trying to help out his co-host, Phillip suggested they get the camera crew to come closer toward the table they were sat at for their next segment but she told him: "No, it's fine."

Not listening, the 59-year-old got them to move closer anyway, commenting: "Creep right in there, in you come team, creep in, don't be shy. It's fine, closer, closer, come right in."

"That is so much better, thank you so much... oh it's a bit close, no that's too close. It's so much better thank you so much," Alison said.

With the new "intimate" set up, Alison whipped off her glasses and started reading the autocue again but stumbled over the word "qualified" as she and Phillip giggled.

"That didn't help then, did it?" he teased as Alison replied: "I'm putting them back on," before getting on with the rest of the show.
