Alison Hammond faces backlash from PETA for riding 'exhausted' camel on Dubai holiday

Alison Hammond has faced backlash from animal rights non-profit organisation PETA.

The This Morning star, 47, came under fire for riding a camel in Dubai after she uploaded a video of the excursion on her Instagram, with PETA saying the tourist attraction causes animals "tremendous suffering".

In the clip, Alison said: "So we're here in the desert, I've put my scarf on. Do you not like the way I've got my scarf on? We're ready for the desert, we are definitely ready."

Mimi Bekhechi, Vice President, Europe and Australia told Mail Online: 'We can only assume that Alison is unaware that riding camels causes these animals tremendous suffering.

'For camels used in the tourism trade, life bears no resemblance to a natural existence. These intelligent animals are sometimes subjected to violence, stuffed into lorries and trailers for transport, and forced to carry tourists on their backs for hours.

'Exhausted camels work in scorching heat, often without access to shade or water. In fact, camel rides are so cruel that Egypt's Ministry of Tourism has banned them near the pyramids of Giza. Camels aren't selfie props or tools for creating content."

Mirror Online has contacted Alison's representatives for comment.

Elsewhere, the TV star looked incredible in a plunging black swimsuit as she soaked up the sun on a lounger. Donning a black cap and tortoiseshell sunglasses, she captioned the shot: "Dubai vibes".

Earlier this week it was announced Alison is up for best TV presenter award at this year's National Television Awards, alongside Ant and Dec, Graham Norton and Bradley Walsh.

As well as her success on This Morning, it is rumoured that Alison is favourite to host the highly anticipated Big Brother reboot , which is expected to air on ITV2 next year.

If she has got the gig, she would be the perfect person to present it – as it’s the very show she found fame on back in 2002.

Since then Alison has gone on to become one of the most successful Big Brother housemates ever and is now a TV star in her own right.

This was despite being in the house for just 15 days before she was voted out in season three, which also featured Kate Lawler and Jade Goody , who died of cancer aged just 27 in 2009.
