Alison Hammond defended by fans over harsh This Morning criticism as Holly Willoughby returns

Alison Hammond has been supported by fans after being on the receiving end of harsh criticism for her presenting on This Morning.

Allison's colleague Holly Willoughby tested positive for coronavirus earlier this month, forcing her out of the Dancing on Ice semi final on Sunday, March 13 and This Morning for a full week.

Both Alison and Josie Gibson joined Phillip Schofield in Holly's absence, with the popular ITV daytime programme having yet another presenter shake up, just weeks after Phillip was missing in action due to Covid.

Holly finally made an emotional return to This Morning on Wednesday, with her hugging Phillip as they sat next to each other for the first time in weeks.

Holly, 41, shared her delight at being back with Phillip in a joyful Instagram photo and one the first people to comment was Alison. The former Big Brother contestant. wrote: "So good to see you back... yes !!!"

However, Alison's comment was seized on by one critic who fired back: "everyone else is glad to see her . You've done a s**t job replacing her." Fans who spotted the scathing dig promptly rushed to Alison's defence, with one replying: "no need for that. Alison did a great job," and a second writing: "that’s not nice no need for that."

Taking things further, another Alison supporter told the user who made the damning remark: "if you don’t like her, you don’t like her but there’s no need to be so nasty about it! Along with many others, I love @alisonhammond55! She’s such a genuine, down to Earth person and did a great job when she filled in for Holly."

Alison is expected to be back on This Morning on Friday, alongside her regular co-host Dermot O'Leary.
