Alison Hammond was quick to comfort Neighbours actor Alan Fletcher as he made a tearful appearance on Monday's This Morning.
Alan, who has played the role of Karl Kennedy in the Australian soap for 28 years, joined Alison and her co-host Dermot O'Leary in the ITV studio to discuss the show coming to an end.
After the duo shared a montage of Alan's time on the series as Karl with his onscreen wife Susan (played by Jackie Woodburne), TV presenter Dermot commented: "Wow, that was a trip wasn't it?!"
Alan, 65, replied: "Oh it's wonderful to be here, I've got a bit of a tear going on now!"
"Twenty eight years! I'm not surprised!" Alison interjected, before adding: "I mean, when you see all of that footage, does it bring back lovely memories?"
She then noticed that Alan had a glisten in his eye and comforted him by placing her head on his knee and said: "Oh you’re really crying, really getting emotional!"
"Well, it does trigger all that wonderful emotion that you had when you actually shot the scenes," Alan replied.
Speaking about filming his final scenes, he added: "Jackie and I you know we’ve busted up and got back together, we’ve busted up and got back together and every time the tears are very real, they feel real and the moment feels real."
Elsewhere in the interview, Alan revealed that he was actually an extra on Neighbours before landing the role of Karl.
Host Dermot asked him about his first steps on Ramsay Street, saying not many people know Karl isn't his only role on the show.
Alison then said: "I didn't know that either!"
Alan then told them: "Greg is a mechanic with a deep, dark secret - there's always a deep dark secret!
"They had a three-week gap for an apprentice mechanic. I was the supervisor! It was just a wonderful fun show. I knew Stefan Dennis and Alan Dale.
"Everyone talks about what a family atmosphere it is, and it really was like that in 1987 - as it has always been.
"I went away and it didn't occur to me that I would go back. They then asked if I would like to do another year. A year of work for an actor? That's gold!" he added.
This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV and ITV Hub.
