Alison Hammond awkwardly shuts down Dermot O'Leary seconds into ITV This Morning over 'engagement'

Dermot O'Leary has once again got Alison Hammond chatting about her love life as he awkwardly approached rumours that she is engaged to her 'secret' boyfriend. The pair were back at the helm of This Morning on Friday (February 24) for the first time since it was reported that Alison was set to tie the knot to her beau, who she hasn't revealed publically.

While Alison continues to keep her love life out of the public eye, she did reveal last year that she had a man in her life. Or should we say co-host and friend Dermot let the news slip during a live episode of the ITV daytime show.

Dermot said at the time: "You're not available anymore but if you were, jeez, what a catch!" At the time a sheepish Alison reprimanded Dermot for "telling the world" but then later opened up about her partner.

Then later, speaking to Lorraine Kelly on her self-titled ITV show, Alison said her boyfriend, who she hasn't named but is reported to be a gardener, makes her "heart sing" and "enriches her life". She added: "All I can say is he makes my heart sing and I feel content. He enriches my life in ways I’ve never had before." In November, she told a podcast it was "a little bit" love at first sight for her, adding: "I don’t think it was love at first sight on their front."

Kicking off the last edition of This Morning of the week, there was a sound of wedding bells as Alison and Dermot appeared on-screen before the former X Factor host exclaimed: "I hear a congratulations are in order..." As the sound of bells rang out, Demort turned to his co-star and said: "I can't believe you weren't going to tell us you're getting married."

But Alison, who shot to fame after appearing on Big Brother in 2002, laughed and declared: "Cut the music! I'm not engaged, I'm so sorry I'm not engaged!" She then added: "I told you, if I was ever to get engaged or get married I would be the first person to tell you! I'd put it all over Instagram and TikTok!"

The 48-year-old continued: 'Sorry, it's fake news! I'm not getting married. One day it might happen, but sorry babes but it's fake news. You'd be the first to know!" to which Dermot, 49, replied: "I was looking forward to walking you down the aisle!"

Alison has been married before and is mum to 18-year-old son Aidan, who was born on her birthday in 2005 and who she shares with her ex-husband, cab driver Noureddine Boufaied. Back in 2021, Alison shared a rare picture of her ex-partner as she shared her pride for their son. The This Morning host posted a video to TikTok showing off a then-16-year-old Aidan all suited and booted at the Pride of Britain Awards.

It showed Alison, then 46, hopping on a trend doing the rounds on the video platform where users show a photo of their child and then their parents or vice versa. Sharing the video with her TikTok followers, she first shared a photo of Noureddine, reportedly from Manchester, before a glam selfie of herself appeared on the screen. It then ended with teenager Aidan in a tartan suit giving his best blue steel on a 360 video booth on the red carpet of the annual ceremony.
