Alison Hammond amuses co-star with Love Island mistake she's made every series

Alison Hammond is a huge Love Island fan, but that's not stopped her from making a hilarious error every series.

The This Morning favourite confessed on the show on Friday that she'd been mistaken over a regular part of the series the entire time, until she headed to the villa herself last year.

Her confession left co-host Dermot O'Leary and new Love Island host Maya Jama stunned, as they couldn't believe she had been so wrong all this time.

It happened as Alison asked Maya about her planned outfits for the show, especially for the famous slow motion walk sequences.

The common moment on the show sees the host of the series making their way towards the villa to drop some big news.

The presenter is shown walking in slow motion, strutting towards the famous location, while of course this has been edited.

Maya, like previous show hosts Caroline Flack and Laura Whitmore, will be filmed walking at normal speed before this is edited before it airs.

But Alison hilariously confessed she did not realise this was how it was filmed, actually believing the hosts walked very slowly.

It wasn't until she visited the villa and got all the secrets from behind-the-scenes that she realised the slow motion comes in later.

Dermot was stunned and laughed in her face, as Maya was equally baffled about Alison's mistake.

As Alison asked about her outfit choices and if they were sorted, Maya said: "Kind of, not really. The biggest pressure one is the slow motion walk to enter... so much pressure!

"I'm like it's got to look good in the wind, got to be able to move in it. You've got to be saucy but not too saucy."

It's then that Alison admitted: "Can I tell you something, what I found out... I went to the Love Island, I actually found out you just walk then they put the slow motion on. You don't have to even worry about it!"

Maya added: "Just stroll normal! You thought they were walking in slow motion? That would be quite hard, it just gets slowed down!"

Dermot placed his head in his hands as he asked Alison: "Please tell me you're joking," with Alison adding: "No, seriously, you just walk normal!"

He said back: "No, I know that. Please tell me you didn't know that!" as Alison admitted: "No, I didn't know that!"

Dermot began to laugh hysterically, unable to believe that she was being serious about her mistake.

Meanwhile, explaining what viewers can expect from the new series in South Africa Maya said: "I literally go tomorrow! It's been a massive countdown because you find out ages ago and it’s like ‘not this month’, ‘not the next month or the next’ and now it’s one day away! But I’m really, really excited.

"It was a no-brainer because I’m a massive fan of the show and I was like, ‘Yeah, ok… when does it start?’...it’s all a bit of a blur to be honest. But I found out and said, ‘Yes, absolutely!’ and now we’re off to South Africa."

On preparing for the series, Maya said: "I have always been a big fan but I tried not to do too much research because you want to still be yourself don’t you?

"And ask the questions you want to know… I’m just going to approach it how I’ve screamed at the telly for years!"

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV1 and ITVX.
