Police are continuing their search for missing Edinburgh woman Alice Byrne more than two weeks on from her “out-of-character” disappearance.
The 28-year-old is understood to have left a flat on Marlborough Street in the Portobello area of the Capital between 8am and 10am on Saturday, January 1 but has since failed to make contact with friends or relatives.
"Shocked and distressed" family members previously issued a desperate statement imploring her to return home while a massive community appeal has been launched in an effort to trace her.
Officers have launched an extensive search for Alice, also known as Alathea, including the use of drones to scour the area around Portobello Beach and Promenade - where it is believed she headed after leaving the flat.
They have asked anyone who may know of Alice's whereabouts to come forward and share it with local police immediately.
Inspector Keith Scott said: “It is out of character for Alice not to keep in contact with her family and friends.
"We are becoming increasingly concerned for her wellbeing and we are working to trace her as soon as possible to ensure that she is safe and well.
"Searches and enquiries have been ongoing since she was reported missing, and we are now asking the public for any assistance they can provide."
Inspector Scott added: “I would urge anyone who has seen Alice since Saturday morning, or anyone with information on her whereabouts to contact us as soon as possible.
"I would appeal to Alice herself to contact us if she sees this appeal. Contact 101 quoting reference 0647 of 2 January.”
Alice is described as white, around 5'6 in height and of medium build with short black hair.
At the time of her disappearance, she was said to be wearing a black top, black jeans ripped at the knees and white trainers.
Family members have also urged the public to look out for a distinctive bat tattoo on her left wrist.
