IT’S another big day in The National’s Euro 2024 charity sweepstake.
As group stage action continues, today’s big fixture will see writer and presenter Alistair Heather take on Stephen Flynn.
The latter has, of course, drawn England and previously said he could at least take comfort in the fact that when VAR inevitably intervenes to help that “some good will come from it” as he hopes to raise some money for Community Food Initiatives North East.
Heather, meanwhile, will be hoping Denmark can pick up a win for his chosen charity – Dundee United Community Trust.
England weren’t at their best in the opening game although did pick up a 1-0 win over Serbia while Denmark drew 1-1 with Slovenia.
It is a tie with a bit of history as Gareth Southgate’s side beat Denmark 2-1 to progress to the final of Euro 2020.
The game kicks off at 5pm and will be available to watch on the BBC.
Elsewhere, there’s another big tie for Scottish author Christopher Brookmyre (below) and comedian Susie McCabe.
Both got off to a winning start with Spain and Italy respectively with the former comfortably dispatching Croatia 3-0.
Things weren’t as simple for Italy however, who had to come from behind to pick up a 2-1 win over Albania.
Brookmyre is hoping Spain can go on to lift the trophy for a fourth time to raise money for Médecins Sans Frontières.
McCabe, meanwhile, will be hoping Italy can retain their title after their famous win over England at the previous tournament as she looks to win some money for Carntyne Credit Union Food Bank.
The game will kick off at 8pm and is available to watch on STV.
Finally, today’s early kick off sees Alba’s general secretary Chris McEleny take on Green MSP Gillian Mackay (above) as Slovenia play Serbia.
The latter lost to England in their opener although could count themselves unlucky not to perhaps nick a draw while Slovenia managed a 1-1 draw with Denmark.
McEleny is playing for Alzheimer Scotland while Mackay’s chosen charity is the Stroke Association.
The game will start at 2pm and will be broadcast on STV.
