Alfredo Morelos has told Rangers he hasn’t penned a pre-contract with Sevilla despite reports in the Spanish media linking him with the La Liga outfit.
Michael Beale is yet to speak to the Colombian about his future, or lack of one at Ibrox, and admitted as much after the Scottish Cup quarter-final win over Raith Rovers at the weekend. As things stand, El Bufalo is set to leave Ibrox after five years at the club since joining from HJK Helsinki.
Morelos has informed Rangers that he hasn’t spoken to or agreed terms with any other club as of yet, although has been free to speak to potential suitors since the turn of the year. The other issue that Sevilla has is that they are only two points off the relegation spots and are unlikely to commit until they are safe. Morelos’s future is up in the air. He is out-of-contract at the end of the season and there are no guarantees that he will be offered an extension at Ibrox.
Beale, speaking at the weekend, said: "Alfredo's situation is slightly different. He has been at the club for a long time and I need to see a little bit more from Alfredo day in, day out.
"When he's played when the team has needed him, he's fine. But I want some more energy in the final third.”
Morelos arrived from HJK in a bargain £1 million deal in 2017 but now looks likely to leave for nothing. He has netted more than 120 goals for the Light Blues and is now their top European goalscorer.
He is one of the higher earners at Ibrox and Beale might believe he could get better value elsewhere. Rangers have still to open contract talks with any of their out-of-contract players but Beale has indicated that he would be keen to extend the stay of midfielder Ryan Jack.
