Giovanni van Bronckhorst hopes to sit down with Alfredo Morelos over a new Rangers contract.
The manager has been impressed with his striker since taking over from Steven Gerrard.
Morelos has also found form this term with 15 goals in all competitions and has impressed in recent weeks in particular.
Van Bronckhorst admitted he'd be keen to keep the Colombian on a new deal to stave off interest from elsewhere.
"I didn't have a chat with him about his long-term future but he’s definitely a player who is important for us and for the club as well," the Rangers boss said.
“He’s enjoying his football at the moment.
“If your player is out of contract after next season then talks will happen sometime this year to see how the future is for both sides.
“But I’m happy with Morelos and the performances he’s putting in on the pitch.
“Contract wise, yeah somewhere this season I think talks will begin.”
