Alfredo Morelos needs Rangers more than they need him and he might as well hang up his boots NOW - Hotline

Rangers had PSV Eindhoven on their minds but before kick-off it was all about Alfredo Morelos in Hotlineland. And it’s fair to say there wasn’t a lot of sympathy for the South American, who found himself stuck on the naughty step while his team-mates were trying to reach the Champions League.

Exiled Rangers fan, Robert Livingstone, Palm Beach, does believe the Colombian can still have an Ibrox future, though. He emailed: “With his career on the line, Morelos needs Rangers probably more than the club needs him - but he’s still a top quality player and he can score goals, which is something Rangers have been lacking.

“I’ve never been his biggest fan and it certainly was just stupid what Morelos did, but some fans have gone over the top putting the boot into him. These same fans that were cheering when he scored lots of goals. He still should sign a long term deal which would be good for him and the club, come back fitter and better. It rests in his hands.”

Fraser Davison, Glasgow , had a pop at Morelos’ Instagram message, saying: “The tripe that modern players announce on social media is unbelievable! All these profound and deep witterings really show them up as the self-centred egotists that they are.

“If Morelos thinks he’s a ‘warrior returning to battle’ he’s sadly mistaken - it looks like his biggest battle is walking past a Greggs the bakers! Eight red cards, countless bookings, kicking, slapping, tripping and elbowing, letting team and supporters down, there’s a name for that type of player and warrior it ain't.”

James Kennedy, Kilsyth , said: “So Andrew Lamb thinks Alfredo Morelos is worth £8m. As my dear old dad used to say “you wouldn’t get a balloon off the ragman for him.”

“The man is a bombscare and nobody will want him. He might as well hang up his boots now.”

Jim McClean, Isle of Bute emailed: “ Graeme Souness is right about Morelos but there is only one problem..who would want to buy him? £6million? Don’t make me laugh. They should cut their losses and show him the door or play him in the B team league.”

Stephen Mulhern, Dumbarton , emailed: “Now that Morelos has supposedly lost the support of his fellow teammates in the dressing room, his move out of Ibrox seems imminent. And his so-called £30million price tag will have plummeted to £3m, which could tempt League One clubs down south to take a punt on him.”

Jim Hendrie emailed: “Morelos must be the stupidest footballer ever. Ordered off eight times and expects to get a new contract.”

Kenny Wilson, Moffat , said: “It’s time Rangers cut their losses with Morelos and cut their asking price down to £30m.”

John Lundstram ’s red card being rescinded also prompted a couple of comments. John Bruce emailed: “Once again a Rangers player has had a card downgraded from a red to a yellow.

"But, yet again, the damage has been done. Rangers lost two valuable points, as they never looked like losing that game at the time of Lundstram’s sending off. How many more seasons are Rangers’ league winning hopes going to be hamstrung by poor refereeing decisions?

"And after a weekend that saw Rangers’ and Hearts’ teams reduced to nine men, and with Celtic committing eleven fouls without a single booking, when was the last time that two Celtic players were given red cards in the same game?”

John Dickson emailed: “How long are the SFA going to employ Willie Collum - another decision going against him with John Lundstram’s red card turned over. He is an embarrassment to Scottish football.”

Sean Beech, Hampshire , emailed: “Four weeks into the season and already you have Rangers gifted a dodgy penalty, the opposition denied a stonewaller and yet the same old Rangers fans are claiming the league is being gifted to Celtic. Same old excuses.”

Robert McEwan, Mount Vernon , said: “At last, a Hotline caller who makes sense - Alan Flett. Celtic won the league because we won most of our games and Rangers slipped up a good few times. We are desperate for VAR to come in. Kyogo on Saturday is a perfect example of why it is needed.”

Today's Hotline doesn't make for great reading for Alfredo Morelos - but what do you make of Wednesday's calls?
