Alfredo Morelos in Colombia snub as Rangers star left out for World Cup qualifier after missing Celtic showdown

Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos was not even named on the bench for Colombia as they took on Peru on Friday night.

The striker will miss the big title showdown with Celtic after being called up by his country in the international break.

Colombia face crucial World Cup 2022 qualifiers against Peru and Argentina but the Rangers man was not included for the former.

Morelos was not even named on the bench as Radamel Falcao and Rafael Santos Borre led the line.

Tottenham defender Davinson Sanchez and Juventus star Juan Cuadrado were among those starting for El Tri, as well as former Real Madrid man James Rodriguez.

While Morelos could still be given the nod for the trip to face Argentina, his absence will be a source of frustration for Rangers fans.

El Bufalo's call-up means he will not be available when Gio van Bronckhorst's side travel to Parkhead to face Celtic on February 2.

He has been capped 11 times by his country, scoring once.

While on international duty, Morelos took the time to underline how happy he is at Ibrox.

He said: "I was named Player of the Month in December, I've been scoring goals and I feel good physically. I'm just thinking about scoring more goals and God will decide what happens in the future.

"I'll keep working hard and fighting. I'm also in the Colombia squad now, so I hope to stay there - we'll see how it goes. I hope it all goes as well as possible. Right now I'm fully focused on Rangers.

"I feel very happy in Glasgow, as do my family. My daughter is really settled here, I feel very pleased. Rangers really welcomed me when I joined, as did the fans, so I feel really happy here.

"Playing in the Champions League is a source of motivation for me. We're going to fight for that.

"My teammates and I are all very positive, that goes for the coaching staff as well. We have a lead at the moment, but we have to perform on the pitch."
