Alfredo Morelos' Celtic vs Rangers display handed 'rubbish' tag as pundit discusses future

Pat Nevin has branded Alfredo Morelos' Celtic performance as 'rubbish' and says he was nowhere near good enough for Rangers.

The Colombian hitman was banished from the Light Blues squad ahead of their trip to the Netherlands to face PSV in a crucial Champions League play-off showdown with the Ibrox boss citing concerns over the striker’s attitude and fitness as the reasons behind his big decision.

The call was justified as summer recruit Antonio Colak fired the only goal of the game for a famous away win and a spot in the lucrative tournament proper with Liverpool, Ajax and Napoli making up the section. Rangers are back in the Netherlands once again as they kick off their campaign against Calvin Bassey and his new club in Amsterdam.

Morelos also missed out against St Johnstone and the Premier Sports Cup last 16 win over Queen of the South due to serving an suspension from his red card at Easter Road. But following showdown talks he was back in the fold to face Celtic as he appeared for the final 30 minutes of the match with his side trailing by three goals.

The hitman wasn't the reason his side were well beaten by Ange Postecoglou's men but Nevin says he needs to get his head right and realise he wouldn't get the chance to play at Europe's top table if he were to leave Rangers.

Speaking to Grosvenor Sport, Nevin said: "Alfredo Morelos came on against Celtic in the Old Firm and he was rubbish. His attitude was poor and he was nowhere near good enough for Rangers.

"If a manager can get inside his head, he can get fit and get used to the fact that he won't be the main man anymore then he can still have a future.

"Morelos needs to realise that he wouldn't get a Champions League move if he were to leave Rangers so these might be the best years of his career. The best thing he can do is get his head right - he can't blow the opportunity he has right now."
