Controversial striker Alfredo Morelos has been bombed OUT of Rangers’ squad for the Champions League do-or-die playoff return leg in the Netherlands. The move comes after the frontman was controversially sent off in the draw against Hibs at Easter Road on Saturday and he will now not feature against PSV Eindhoven.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst has opted not to take the Colombian across the North Sea for the match in the Philips Stadium where Rangers are looking to progress to the group stage of UEFA’s premier competition for the first time in 12 years.
It’s a huge call from the Rangers boss who has concerns over the player regarding both his fitness and his attitude. Sky Sports report Van Bronckhorst even consulted senior players before the making the decision with the Ibrox squad due to fly to Holland on Tuesday afternoon ahead of Wednesday’s game. Morelos has just one year left on his contract and Van Bronckhorst spoke just last month of his confidence in Morelos signing a Rangers extension to his current Ibrox deal but contract talks are reportedly now on hold.
However, the frontman lasted just 13 minutes after he was introduced as a substitute in Edinburgh before being given his marching orders lashing out. The news means Antonio Colak will lead the line in the Philips Stadion.
