Alfredo Morelos and the unknown Rangers transfer clause as star's former club make 'significant' sell on claim

Rangers star Alfredo Morelos ' former club have claimed they still own 14 per cent of the striker's rights. And Indepeniente Medellin chief Daniel Ossa Giraldo insists they will be a considerable cash windfall if the forward leaves Ibrox.

The Colombian forward is pushing for a return to first-team action having been out with a thigh injury since March and could be back in time for Tuesday's crunch Champions League return against Union Saint-Gilloise. Morelos is on track to sign a new deal with Rangers after Giovanni van Bronckhorst revealed in July positive talks had been held over his future.

The 26-year-old is into the final year of his deal but now looks set to extend that stay further after arriving for just £1m from HJK Helsinki in 2017. But if he ever does depart Glasgow, Medellin president Giraldo, has claimed that they still retain a chunky percentage of the rights of their former player and will be due a large sum.

Giraldo said: "With regards to Alfredo Morelos, I can tell you that we still hold a significant percentage of the player's rights. It is around 14 per cent which will be due to us when he is transferred from Rangers."

Sevilla reportedly had an offer of £8 million for Morelos rejected in June, but the striker is desperate to return to action with Rangers.
