Alfredo Morelos and John Lundstram in Celtic green light as Rangers duo set to swerve derby suspension

Rangers duo Alfredo Morelos and John Lundstram WILL be available to face Celtic in the first clash between the rivals this season despite picking up red cards against Hibs.

Lundstram was sent for an early bath for a cynical tackle on Martin Boyle which saw referee Willie Collum decide that the lunge from the Rangers midfielder warranted a red card. Substitute Morelos then joined him as he threw an swinging arm at Marijan Cabraja and caught the Hibs' defender in the face. The nine men would eventually concede a late equaliser as Josh Campbell made it 2-2 at Easter Road.

However, the pair could still make the clash at Celtic Park given the SFA guidelines over the incidents. The Scottish FA state that serious foul play and violent conduct incidents would earn the offender a two-game ban, and the category of the red card will only be confirmed once whistler Collum submits his report on the game.

However, it would appear that both flashpoints will earn Lundstram and Morelos a two-game ban, with the SFA rule book stating the ban will carry into any league or cup competition. The governing body state: "A Recognised First Team Player sent off in a First Team match (other than in a Specified Cup Competition) will be suspended for his club’s next two First Team matches, irrespective of the competition and including Specified Cup Competitions, as applicable."

This means that the pair would miss Rangers' Scottish Premiership clash with Ross County in the Premiership as well as the Premier Sports Cup game against Queen of the South. Both would be free to return to face Celtic on September 3.
