Before the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, much was made about the fact that 14 LIV golfers were in the field for the tournament, which took place at Carnoustie, Kingsbarns and the Old Course, St Andrews.
In the end, despite six of the players from the circuit failing to make the cut, one of the remaining eight, Legion XIII player Tyrrell Hatton, took the honors for a record third time at the event.
Hatton didn't have it all his own way, and on the back nine of the final round at the Old Course, the Englishman's three-shot lead disappeared as Nicolas Colsaerts threatened to win his first DP World Tour title since 2019, but he held on to eventually claim the title by one shot.
The event offered one of the largest payouts on the DP World Tour this season, with the professionals competing for a share of a $5m purse, and of that, Hatton won €739,482 (around $812,000).
Perhaps as importantly for Hatton, the tournament means he is now just one DP World Tour appearance this year away from ensuring his eligibility for the 2025 Ryder Cup.
There were also Ryder Cup points on offer at the tournament, with the top six Europeans in line for automatic qualification for the Bethpage Black match by the time the qualifying period concludes next year.
Hatton began the event 33rd on the points list, but the win has boosted him to fifth as he aims for his fourth successive Ryder Cup appearance.
There were also 5,000 Race to Dubai ranking points available as players competed for the chance to finish in the top 70 of the standings to make the lucrative season-closing DP World Tour Playoffs.
