Chelsea have been handed a huge boost in the race to sign Alexis Mac Allister as Graham Potter looks to bolster his options in the summer. The 24-year-old has been heavily linked with an exit from Brighton for some time now as he continues to impress for club and country.
football.london understands that the centre of midfield is high on the agenda for the Blues at the end of the season and frequent conversations among the hierarchy behind the scenes have already taken place. With that said, Chelsea hold a keen interest in Mac Allister, who worked alongside Potter at the Amex Stadium.
Enzo Fernandez and the Seagulls star were integral to Argentina's success at the World Cup in December. Mac Allister has managed to continue his great vein of form since returning from Qatar, featuring eights times for Roberto De Zerbi's side in the Premier League and registering three goal involvements.

The Argentine is somebody that Chelsea are fond of and one of several names on the club's radar, football.london understands. In February, Mac Allister's father, Carlos, suggested that 'an important transfer' for his son is on the horizon.
Speaking to TYCSports, he said: "It seems to me a very good thing that he has returned from the World Cup and has not despaired about leaving, enjoying success calmly and in peace, in a team that loves him very much. The reception he received has been the best.
"He is very well in the club. We all know that in July there will be possibilities to be able to leave. But prior to the World Cup, Alexis renewed his contract so that the club also has the opportunity of an important transfer, so that a lot can reach Brighton. It’s the idea."
Then, more recently, in an interview with ESPN Argentina, Carlos admitted that contact has been made with various clubs over a move in the summer. However, Mac Allister's father insisted that their decision will not be swayed by financial gain but rather the 'best project' and coach.
"Clubs are starting to call us for Alexis but there are no concrete talks now," he said, as quoted by 90min. "We’ll decide together with Brighton, they deserve respect. We will pick the best project, based on the coach too — it’s not about money."
While Chelsea maybe have a slight advantage in that Potter is Mac Allister's former boss, the Blues have spent more on player signings than any other club this season. So, it seems that in order to sign the Brighton star, Todd Boehly will have to present a detailed plan of the west London outfit's project.
